What is Faith ?

What is faith ? The Bible itself defines it as :

"Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen". Hebrews 11:1

Faith is mental delusion, believing in things that we hope for, even if we cannot see them. The Bible says so ! And something you have faith is, is just as proven as something you know through evidence. In fact, to faith "evidence" is useless, since faith is about things unseen.

Suppose someone tells you that he has a free energy machine, and wants you to invest ten thousand dollars to get one when they're done. These machines are the salvation of mankind and will save the Earth. And you have to have faith, because what else will help you get your money back from those evil energy peddlers, and save the planet ?

Fact is, there are thousands of people who have faith in this nonsense, and who paid a great deal of money for it. They follow scammers like Dennis Lee. They all have faith that they are right and that any criticism of this "wonderful spiritual opportunity" is evil.

Faith seems attractive in some cases, because our normal, healthy skepticism is thrown off by our discomfort. We don't like to live in an indifferent universe, where there are no easy solutions. What does it hurt to have faith in something ? Well, for one thing, you're living a lie and investing your time, money or mind in a fraud.

Tinkerbell Theology : "clap your hands hard enough and it'll haoppen". Faith is a big ego-trip. You don't have to follow reality anymore, whether you feel like hoping for magically comes true. Or does it ? Does the free energy machine exist because you believe in it ?

It's funny how believers reject their standards of faith when other people use them.
People who believe in divine revelation don't believe a mass murderer, or a mother who murders her children, because "God told her so".
People who believe in an inerrant Bible don't believe the claims of any other holy book or book of fables, like the Quran, the Bhagavad-Gita, the Satanic Bible, or the Brothers Grimm.
People who believe that whatever makes them "feel good" is true, still blame rapists for doing what makes them "feel good".

Either way, anyone who claims faith is a hypocrite. As "Jesus" says, "You blind guides! You strain out a gnat but swallow a camel" (Matthew 23:24). People who profess great faith strain and vomit out the fruits of science and critical thinking, and yet they swallow belief in a sky-pixie that popped the universe out of nothing, an all-good being that wipes out all life on Earth, and a man who walks on water and comes back from the dead.

Having faith is too difficult for an honest man ! Anyone who seriously thinks that his beliefs are more important than the facts is deluded, insane, and belongs in an asylum for being dysfunctional.
